NOTE: This bug report is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding bug report.

      Steps to reproduce:

      • Add new calendar
      • Add some custom Event types for the new calendar, named "A", "B", "C" etc.
      • Add events with the different custom event types
      • In the calendar view page, the event types are not sorted alphabetically, but in an odd and not comprehensible order. See screenshot.

This is very annoying in a calendar with many event types.

[CONFSERVER-48462] Sort Event Types alphabetically in calendar view

I just had this request come in from a leader as we have recently adopted Confluence calendars for our vacation and time away scheduling. Looks like I have to tell her that it's not possible to change the sort order.

This is definitely impacting my departments adoption of this feature. Not that they won't use it, but the constant complaining of trying to find the event type filter they want to select / de-select.

And when you look at the Space Tools and can Reorder pages and Configure sidebar both allowing you to drag and drop to manually move the items, it makes you feel like this was a definite miss and not consistent with the overall look and feel of the product.

I personally would like to see from the Calendars page from a given space each calendars menu (...) to have a Reorder events; select that option and have an interface identical to the Configure sidebar from Space Tools, with the addition of an Alpha icon that toggles ascending / descending.

@PSNMC Systems - this is exactly why we're deprecating our Atlassian systems. There are items we've needed that have been in the hopper since 2006. Lousy customer service.

            It's been 5 years guys!

Come on - how hard can it be to add .sort( ) to a method??

            Please?

I could live with the alpha sort, as well, and the departments for whom I'm creating Jira issues in Team Cal for Conf is very odd. There isn't a rhyme or reason as to how they sort.

Manual sorting would be best, but at this moment I'd settle for being able to influence the sort at all (alphabetically or via hidden properties or anything).

Please also allow for a manual sort. Use Case: I'm using JIRA events, where each legend entry corresponds to a different process state in the JIRA ticket e.g.: Backlog > Assessment > In Progress > Verification > Closed. Alphabetical ordering wouldn't help here. Please redirect to a more appropriate ticket, if such already exists.

            Please sort this out!

I agree that this is clearly a feature that needs to be included, if not a bug.

When you add a calendar entry, the event labels that are customized are sorted in alphabetical order, which makes sense. Once the calendar is viewed and event labels are shown in the right pane, they are ordered incomprehensibly.

In my example, I am using a common keyword + a number for the label. The numbers being part of the label makes the issue if the labels not being ordered painfully clear.
