      Allow the

      {gallery}

macro to have a "sort by" argument that would allow sorting by filename or by date of the file. Maybe even allow reording of attachments. Even better would be if there were an EXIF extractor that would allow sorting by the date the photo was taken. This would allow Confluence to be used as a replacement for a photo gallery program such as NGallery, etc. (and would allow me to stop using NGallery at the very least).

Response from Atlassian support regarding the same topic is below ...

      Paul,

it is currently not possible to change the order of the images within the gallery macro. It would be fairly straight forward to extend the macro to allow for sorting the images by name or by date.

If you would like to see a feature like this added to Confluence, or have any further ideas or suggestions, please file a request at http://jira.atlassian.com. This will allow other users to vote for the request and add comment on it.

      Cheers,
      Jens

Sorry, Mark. We prioritise features and improvements against all the other outstanding issues, and unfortunately haven't got to this issue yet. I'll raise this issue with our product management team to see if we can get it scheduled.

If you're interested in patching this yourself, it should be a small change to the getHtml() method in com.atlassian.confluence.renderer.radeox.macros.GalleryMacro. If you don't have the Java skills, you might be able to engage one of the plugin developers on our development forum to do it for you.

Is anything going on with this?
It has been open for over a year!

The reason this is critically important is that if you create 10 images explaining a process, or a software install, they have to be in order.
I use imagename-0001.jpg ...-0002.jpg and need them to appear in that order.

Is there any way to tweak this macro to at least sort alphanumerically ascending?

I want to add two more requests for the gallery macro:

            1. If an attachment doesn't have a comment, use the file name in its place. Currently (2.5) the caption is blank for gallery images that don't have file names.

            2. Separate the "gallery" and "slideshow" functionality. I want a button that starts a slideshow of the attached images without also showing their thumbnails, especially if there are a lot of pictures and their thumbnail gallery would therefore be large (in terms of real estate, time to compute, and time to download) and mostly useless.

(The gallery-ext macro in CONF-6620 does not appear to have been maintained since October of 2006, and there is an un-addressed bug report about it from May 2007. Also, I am not sure how issue entry (4778) relates to the one cloned from the gallery-ext issue, CONF-6620. Should that one be closed as a duplicate of this one, to save confusion?)

            Hi,

i agree to all of the above:

            • Determining the order is a absolut must (not only by name or date though)
            • Determining the image size is a must
            • Filters are a reasonable feature request

            Regards

            Hi,

I want to support this issue strongly - I'm watching it since months now - when will it be solved? Can you please come up with an estimation at least?

And 2nd question: What's about the problem the gallery macro causes in Internet Explorer? I think this is even of a greater pain (unfortunately IE is more in use than any other browser!). See http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/CONFEXT/Gallery+Macro?focusedCommentId=25788653#comment-25788653

            Many thanks!

            1) Option to include all attachments or selected images in attachements to include in gallery slideshow
            2) In addition to previous and next links, provide a left nav or access to the list to quickly jump to any image. This is useful when you are jumping around doing a demo using the gallery feature.

Come ON guys. What good is this macro if you can't determine the order that it comes up? No one can even say for certain WHAT determines the current order, so for us behind the rope, it truly is random.

Honestly, why would anyone put up a slideshow in seemingly RANDOM order? In what scenario is this a great idea?

Why does this even need a single vote? Pick or name SOME default, anything, and let's get this fixed.

Created gallery-ext macro that allows for sorting by name or comment, see CONF-6620 for more info.
