      Macro should be made in order to support Mathematical Formulae.

            [CONFSERVER-4550] Macro that can render Mathematical Formulae

            I guess at Cnflunece all math and science is dead.

            That confluence link is broken and any latex plugin I can search for is not free or built in functionality.

            I will apply to reopen and request that the same functionality will be attributed to Jira as well

            We now have a Confluence LaTex plugin, contributed by a commuinty member. Initial reports have been very positive. As such, I'm closing this request as 'fixed'.

            Note that Tex/LaTeX and mathML are very different animals. MathML is not intended to be written or edited directly by humans. Even with the addition of mathML support, I think Tex/LaTeX support is still desired.

            I have just had two academic customers request support for MathML.

            LaTeX or simply TeX commands would be perfect.

            Interesting to hear another good report about MimeTex CGI. But Anthony said above that the formulae can't be exported. Perhaps Atlassian could fix the export and then we would have a complete solution?

            I also work for a financial services firm (www.riskmetrics.com) which has implemented the MimeTex CGI solution on our Confluence instance. It was a snap to implement, works great and the applause from our Research department was deafening. I would recommend you go this route unless Atlassian releases an alternative implementation.

            I work for a Financial Services company. It would be really great if Confluence supported math formulas - please implement asap.

            We also use Confluence in an Engineering organisation. Formulae are very important for us. Please make the priority 'major'.

            We use Confluence in the Engineering Department. Not having mathematical formulae is very painfull for us. I strongly vote for this feature! It would be very helpfull! Why has the priority changed to minor?

            We have found one solution to this. Using MimeTex (http://www.forkosh.com/mimetex.html) as a CGI on a server, you can add a User Macro called math with the template:

            <img src="http://path_to_your_server/mimetex?$body">

            Then you can just use

            {math} y = x^2 {math}

            to have the correct formula rendered. The only problem is that it doesn't work for exporting, since it seems that Confluence doesn't export external images.

            We are evaluating MediaWiki and Confluence. The ability to enter math formulae is on our wish list. So please may I encourage you to add this support to Confluence?

            MediaWiki's support for formulae is good. Confluence could be made even better if formulae were supported in the WYSIWYG editor.

            It should not be too hard to write a plugin to use Texvc, along the lines of the graphviz plugin.

            It would be sufficient for me, if I could use common LaTeX commands - within macro tags - to describe mathematical formulae. Similar to the MediaWiki engine in Wikipedia (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hilfe:TeX).
