Steps to Replicate

      1. Install confluence 5.7.3
      2. Disable Atlassian Hipchat Integration Plugin Core.
      Observed Behavior

Confluence Browser keep loading and makes the instance unusable.

You can see the following error in the log:

      2015-03-12 11:26:50,390 ERROR [ajp-bio-8011-exec-3] [confluence.util.velocity.VelocityUtils] writeRenderedTemplate Error occurred rendering template: templates/editor-header.vm

      Expected Behavior

User should be able to use confluence without any problem after disabling Atlassian Hipchat Integration Plugin Core.

      Workaround
You need to disable the following plugin also in order to disable Atlassian Hipchat Integration Plugin Core

      1. Atlassian Hipchat Integration Plugin
      2. Confluence Hipchat Integration Plugin
      3. Confluence HipChat Plugin
      4. HipChat Core Plugin

We're working on a fix for this now - it will involve upgrading the HipChat plugin (e.g. via the UPM) to resolve.

The workaround is the best solution at the moment, and will continue to be the only option for the current versions bundled with Confluence. Once the fix is shipped to marketplace and the plugin has upgraded via the UPM, the order the plugins are disabled will not be important.

I would like to see the Priority to be increased here.

We ran into the same issue during the upgrade from 5.6.x to 5.7.4. These were the symptoms we faced as our management asked us to remove that aggressive promotion of HipChat which is not allowed to use in Germany for some private kind of content:

            • The left side bar is missing that includes the page tree is missing in all spaces that use the documentation theme.
            • If we switch to the default theme and activate the page tree in the side bar, the side bar is visible but completely empty on each sub page.
            • The icon in the top bar that toggles the side bar's visibility is not visible. If you hover over with the mouse it's background flashes but you could not click on it.
            • The share button doesn't work.

We worked together with atlassian's support to get confluence back to work for three days. Finally we found the reason by ourselves and atlassian's support confirmed it by pointing us to this issue afterwards.

The Workaround seems to be a bit tricky. In case that Confluence is already unusable you're not able to open Atlassian Universal Plugin Manager. Any ideas on that?

Verified. I've also confirmed this is not fixed in the latest version of the plugin in marketplace (6.24.0).
