      Confluence Rel. 5.7
Embedding a PDF file of e.g. 8 pages using the macro "PDF" shows a - usually - grey frame (I don't mean the thumbnail) with a small centered icon. The first page of that document is not displayed. While in an older Confluence release one had to click once on the frame to get it displayed it is different with rel. 5.7. Turning pages sooner or later - looks kind of random - some pages are displayed, while others are not. E. g. from 8 pages the first 4 are not displayed i.e. you see a grey frame) and the last 4 are displayed. Deleting the embedded file and embedding it again could result in displaying different pages and others not. The behavior is reproducable - or I shall write: all former embedded files show this bug.

            Hi there,

Thanks for your feedback. In Confluence 5.7 we introduced a new way to upload, preview and comment on files. You no longer need to use a macro, just drag your file into the editor, or use the Files button to upload then insert your file as a thumbnail or link.
To help us focus on making the new files experience as awesome as possible, we have officially deprecated the Office Excel, Office PowerPoint, Office Word and PDF macros and plan to remove them in a future release. So, although the old Office and PDF macros are still available, we encourage you to insert files the new way so you get the ability to preview, comment and easily upload new versions.
As this bug doesn't occur in the new files experience, we are closing this issue.

            Best regards,
            Minh Tran

            Didn't get an answer yet.
            Haven't upgraded to 5.8 or 5.9 yet.
            Regard this feature as nice-to-have.

            Hello Minh,
attached PDF is one causing the effect. Like written above, this file as embedded document is displayed with the last 5 of 8 pages, which means that - starting with page 1 - you just see a grey box with the menu to flip pages below. After flipping to page 4 you can see the first displayed page, which is correctly page 4. Other documents do not show other pages, i.e. sometimes the first page is shown and then other pages not, this looks kind of random, but reproducible for the document. Whenever I have a look at that page the PDF always shows/don't show the same pages. But deleting the document and attaching it again could lead to a different set of pages shown/not shown.
            Regards,
            Christoph
