NOTE: This bug report is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding bug report.

Note: If you are using version 5.8.16 or 5.8.17, or have used those versions in the past without running a script to fix the affected files, then you are likely affected by CONF-39975. Please see that ticket instead.

We found out that some of our Confluence pages have "unknown attachments". There are multiple pages that shows "unknown attachments".
      Here are some details:

      • Attachment images are still there and can be viewed in some pages, but some other page attachments are gone and also not visible in the page.
      • This is not true for all. Some pages have no attachment images at all, but the images are visible with in the page.
      • Workaround is to re-add the attachment image to the macro but since we don't know how many pages are effected, it would be better if there is a fix to apply.
      • We are not sure if it is caused by moving pages within or another space, but this issue is now found in many other spaces.

      Confluence version: 5.4.4

Note This issue was resolved in favour of CONF-41067, which has much more clarity. Please follow that issue after reading the description if you still think this affects you.

There are no Office macros missing in 5.9. I guess they will be removed in 6.0

Issue is affecting also 5.8.18! (CSP-171136)
Please, update and provide solution also for people that cannot upgrade to 5.9 because of the missing documentation theme.

            @Jonah Turnquist:

Our main Confluence installation is still stuck on 5.1.5 (which is out of support of course) because we have so many plugins (some of which need manual changes to the markup to upgrade) and so many users that it's a major operation to upgrade. Others here are working on upgrading it but they've been at it for about 6 months so far; it took us over a year to complete it last time we upgraded.

I can't be sure that it always fails in 5.1.5 when moving pages with attachments to a different space or exporting/importing spaces, but that was the conclusion from my testing last time we had a major problem with this. I don't recall exactly but I think it was always, or nearly always, image files that I was testing with. There might have been a few Word documents as well. They weren't large files.

So on reflection, maybe the issue that's been affecting us might have been fixed since 5.1.5. If I get a chance I'll test on another of our Confluence platforms and see if it's still a problem in 5.8.9. The continuing reports of problems with this issue here, and the still-unresolved 'major bug' status of this issue, led me to assume that this hasn't been fixed. My apologies if there have been fixes for this since 5.1.5 that I wasn't aware of.

jpsupport copy page should work as-was (attachments will be copied to newly created draft).

However if they willing to do operations per-page basis then they could use normal page move.

In context of CONF-39975 attachments on page will be moved normally, it's just attachments of child pages wont' get moved and will appear as lost to end users.

Thank you for your prompt response.

As your recommendation, Customer will upgrade to 5.8.18 at next mantenance time.
Until then, they want to know if "COPY page" is appricable as workaround or not.

administrator29 I just gave a shot at reproducing with no luck.

Can you let me know what version of Confluence you are experiencing this on (or if you are using the Cloud version)? Does it tend to happen on certain types of attachments (certain media type or larger files sizes?)

            Best,
