Inline comment is broken if a page contains a link to another page

NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

      Issue summary

Cannot add inline comment to a string or substring which is similar to link (into another Confluence page).

      Steps to reproduce

      1. In a space, create two pages: Test1 and Test2
      2. On Test1, add the following text: "Link to a page"
      3. Underneath that text, add a link in which the link text is "Link to a page" and the target is the Test2 page
      4. Save the page
      5. Highlight any of the words in the text (not link) "Link to a page" and add an inline comment

      Observed behaviour

      I see the below error:

We can't add your inline comment; the section you highlighted may contain a macro or user mention. Try highlighting plain text.

      Expected behaviour

The user should be able to add a comment.

Please note that we have reviewed the previous issue description, tested multiple scenarios, reviewed the steps to reproduce, as well as the support cases linked. We believe this to be a bug and I'm transitioning it from being a Suggestion to a Bug. Thank you.

            Hi folks

Thank you for your interest and comments on this issue. We have been spending some time investigating issues related to inline comments including CONFSERVER-40019CONFSERVER-36415 and CONFSERVER-57800.

From an analysis of the support cases that have been raised and linked to these tickets, we understand that there are a few related issues and believe we have fixed issues where an inline comment is unable to be added if the page contains a link to another page, either visible or hidden (such as in the case of a page properties macro).

We are updating titles and descriptions to more accurately reflect the issues and steps to reproduce. We will be resolving these issues with a fix available in an upcoming release. If you find that you are still experiencing an issue following this version, please open a support case with what you are experiencing.

            Thank you

I second @Mattias' comment. There is a huge need for this feature for teams that are using Jira macros in Confluence, which is a giant reason that some teams use Confluence at all. This is particularly important for teams that have status reviews that are driven from Confluence, and without this feature, teams still have to rely on using Google docs to make comments during review (forcing certain people to copy and paste what is in Confluence into a Google Doc...)

            Use case:

I'm using a Jira macro to list many issues on one page. It gives a very good overview of all issues for anyone to quickly look through.
It would obviously be great if the reader were able to add inline comments to address specific content. But since all text is within the Jira macro, no inline comments are allowed.
It would help greatly if it was possible.

Is this bug fixed in any of confluence versions, we still have users complaining, why is this taking so long for atlasian to fix this bug, users are getting frustrated, this issue is already nearing one year as per status update.

Hit the strikethrough issue today. Frustrating as it isn't a macro as far as I know?

Same here, when I try to add a comment on a strikethrough line I get the error.
