Inserting PDF Macros preview of 30 PDFs or more causing Constant High CPU Usage in client PC.

      Steps to replicate

      1. Use a system resources monitor
      2. Create a Confluence page
      3. Drag and drop 30 PDFs or more (sample files - link restricted to Reporters and Developers)
      4. Save page
      5. Observe the constant high CPU usages

      Observation

      • Minimizing the browser where the page is opened lower down the CPU usage
      • The high CPU usage is constant even after the PDF Macros are rendered successfully in one page and the browser is left open without any activities (no clicking macros/link, no scrolling up/down the page) from the user

shaffenden, indeed the CPU spike happens when uploading and rendering the PDF Macro after the page is saved. However, the constant high CPU usage can be observed even when the PDF Macro has been rendered in the page.

The more PDF Macros uploaded in one page, the higher the CPU usage is observed.

Hi Steve, thanks for taking a look at this.
Please reopen this issue for the following reasons:

            • Nobody would complain about a CPU spike. This would of course be expected and accepted. Problem here is a constant high cpu usage. Constant in the meaning of - as long as the page is open in the browser.
            • Placing the 60 pdfs in Word of course results in a short cpu spike, but once all files are loaded (after ~30 sec) the cpu load goes down to zero again and I can scroll through the doc with no problem.
            • This behaviour started after the update of confluence from 5.4.4 to 5.6.4.1
              Thanks - Christoph

prompas Given that there are 30 files here that are trying to be previewed my suspicion here is that this is expected behaviour. The browser is going to need to do a lot of work to get those files ready to view. I would expect that if the customer was to try and open those same 30 pdfs using Acrobat then they'd experience a similar CPU spike.

Given this I'm going to close this out as not a bug.

            Regards
            Steve Haffenden
