View Powerpoint Macro keep spinning

Bug Overview

Confluence viewpowerpoint unable to render a powerpoint attachment successfully and the spinner never stop spinning. atlassian-confluence.log will reveal the following stack trace

org.apache.poi.poifs.filesystem.OfficeXmlFileException: The supplied data appears to be in the Office 2007+ XML. You are calling the part of POI that deals with OLE2 Office Documents. You need to call a different part of POI to process this data (eg XSSF instead of HSSF)

Workaround

In order to workaround this issue, it is necessary to disable PowerPoint attachment indexing. This means Confluence will not index the content of PowerPoint attachment, however the title of it will still be indexed and searchable.

1. Go to Confluence Admin > Manage Add-ons.
2. Toward the middle of the screen is a pulldown menu that says User Installed. Change it to All Add-ons.
3. Scroll down to Office Connector under System Add-ons
4. Expand Office Connector plugin
5. Click the + sign next to "x of x modules enabled"
6. Disable the following modules:
   • Powerpoint 97 Content Extractor
   • Powerpoint 2007 Content Extractor

Currently there is no workaround for Cloud.
