Anonymous users can see a list of categories in the Space Directory, even though they don't see the spaces.

[CONFSERVER-34136] Make categories in Space Directory visible only to users who can access the spaces

From my point of view it is essential to have a possibility either to decide which categories are shown to anonymous users or not or to have all categories hidden from anonymous users who do not have permission to view the space. It is a lack of the security if anonymous users can have a look at category tags of categories they don't have access too.

This issue has been waiting quite a while, almost 2 years. But it is certanly required.

I have many public spaces. But I do not want any anonymous user to discover other public space. And also I do not want them to see space directory, navigation panel, confluence home etc.

Anonymous space access and access to other confluence pages should be done seperately.

Since Atlassian has lumped our issue into this improvement request, let me clarify another aspect of this problem:

The Space Directory View will show all categories to an anonymous user.

We want to have a few spaces that can be viewed by our external (anonymous) customers. But, we do not want to expose all of our category names since some category names are only used for internal pages and exposing them would reveal confidential information such as suppliers, technologies and methods.

Tony, we will treat this as an improvement. I've edited the summary to reflect that.
