Hi everyone,
This is Charlie from the Confluence team. Thank you for your interest in this suggestion.
After reviewing this suggestion we have decided that we are unlikely to prioritise it for the foreseeable future. We believe that this was resolved years ago (for example, as early as Confluence 2.x), as Confluence Data Center and Server already generate thumbnails and use them for both viewing page content, and in the editor. Full-sized images are only used in image previews. Therefore, we are closing this ticket to align with our current priorities and communicate them to our customers.
Feel free to leave additional comments if we have misinterpreted the suggestion - we are happy to take another look at it!
You can read more about how we prioritise what to implement here.

Kind regards,
Confluence Data Center
Description
Our problem is, that our Confluence is very slow and we found the reason. When an editor places an image and scales it, then the browser still load every time the big file and not the resized image. E.g. 2,5 MB just for one image.
Confluence should resize it to the size (e.g. 300px) and use it for the preview. When you click on it, then it should load the original image or also optimized to the disply e.g. 1200px.
