      Yo guys!

Sorry to say thous hard words, but: Your editor sucks! No really, I like the concept of confluence, I like the way it is connected to JIRA and step for step every bit of our documentation is moving to confluence.

      BUT!

Writing an article, especially a technically one with a lot of code snippets, sucks! How can I write several lines of monospaces code?

      Look here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2721576/demo.mov

Or even worse, just try to make a list and get the spaces right ... everytime!

The best thing you've done recently to improve the editing experience in confluence is the new Page Layouts feature. I think the reason why it's so awesome, is that you can always predict what's going on, because it is clearly visible.

It's like the editor im using right now here in JIRA: If I wanna write some monospace I just put some of these brackets {} here and they are clearly visible until I hit the blue (preview) button down there.

This is predictable behaviour and this is why writing markdown is getting so much attention right now: Predictability instead of Microsoft Word.

So please Atlassian, add the best markdown editor of all times to Confluence and make you product score in its core discipline!

      Thanks, Markus

Is this fixed? I am not seeing this feature in the latest Confluence Cloud version. There's no way to switch between Markdown script and Preview.

It really is very sad especially since Atlassian already has a good Markdown editor build into Bitbucket.

No plans for a two-way editor?  Why not?  What I'd like is to be able to do everything in markdown and never see the WYSIWIG/rich-text editor.

What's funny is Confluence used to have a markup editor (I've lost track of whether it was Markdown or some other equivalent). In fact my company still uses an installation where you can switch back and forth between rich editing and markup editing tabs (and a preview tab). So people are asking for something Confluence long had and took away. My guess is they took it away to "fix" their inability to make things not get messed up when switching between the markup editing and rich editing (as often happens in our version). Unfortunately this was a poor decision given the tendency of this rich editor to mess things up in ways that it gives you no ability to inspect or fix.

I can only support this. Editor does leave a lot to be desired, a lot. Markdown syntax support, fully support would be awesome. Only key is it cannot just be something lumped on the side of the editor, it has to be a first class citizen.

We've just implemented a way to import from markdown (one way). No plans to do a two-way editor. This will be available from the insert > markup menu, you will be able to select wiki markup or markdown with a preview. Coming in our next major release due out in a couple of months.
