Some PDFs will not render anymore after 5.2-OD-14. In 5.3-OD-4 (the next version in OnDemand), something has changed and some types of PDFs will not render.

[CONFSERVER-31384] Some PDFs won't render after 5.2-OD-14 in the PDF Macro

Carlos, see Petros final comment. It suggests that in Confluence 5.5 some setting was added which allows to disable the memory guard to workaround this issue.

At least that's how I understand his comment. Might be wrong, since I didn't try/check that myself.

Currently experiencing this issue in Confluence 5.7.4.

            Hi everyone,

We patched 5.5.1 version and added ability to disable pdf memory guard for standalone installations. Problem for OD is still remains and tracked as part of https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONF-33763.

I’ll resolve this issue in next 24 hour unless there anyone disagrees.

Reason for resolving is because we tracked both BTF and OD and right now issue is OD specific. Please let me know your thoughts.

            Cheers
            Petro

For a scanned PDF at A4/letter size, at 150dpi, image renders fine, but at 200dpi or more, it gives the error.

            Steve,

Could we please arrange a call regarding this issue?

            Thank you.

            Hi Jacqueline

Thanks for getting in touch. Unfortunately I do not have a firm time on when this issue will be resolved, it's not on our immediate backlog so it's likely to be some time before we can address it. As soon as we have any update on this we will make sure that this ticket is updated with the new information.

This is a major issue as we are rolling out the use of Confluence as a file repository to a large portion of the company. I need to know the timeline for resolution.

In my experience, it seems that the PDF macro will handle a document of all text or all images just fine. But when you have a PDF that has an image (e.g. a letter printed on letterhead with a logo), the PDF will either entirely fail to render in the viewer, or only render the logo and signature on the page.

Please find the attachments for further explanation.

Provided sample pdf file that demonstrates improper behaviour of PDF view functionality.
Pictures with big resolutions are excluded from rendering with the following message in log output:
[INFO] [talledLocalContainer] 2014-03-17 12:17:37,873 WARN [DefaultSlideCacheManager:thread-1] [com.benryan.conversion.MemoryAwarePDFRenderer] drawImage Image of size 2048*1536 px dropped for memory protection

            Small pictures are rendered.

Agree with Roger, this is not minor issue. Priority needs to be higher.

I don´t agree that this is only a "minor" priority. We are relying on this feature to display invoices to our customers, and now we cannot do that beacuse of this bug.... see CONF-32248 in order to reproduce this.
