      NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

      The only way to disable the emoticons is by using Ctrl + Z right after your write the shortcut. Confluence should have something like a checkbox in the general configuration that would disable the emoticons globally.
