    • We collect Confluence feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

Allow for access to common variables for use in Blueprints templates through the template editor, eg:

      1. Current date
      2. Current time
      3. Author
      4. User
      5. System baseUrl

Eg this could be used to create a Blueprint which creates pages with Title:
      2013-08-27: <user>'s Notes

Atlassian status as of November 16, 2018

      Hi all,

Thanks for your interest in this issue.

Unfortunately, this suggestion isn't currently on our roadmap - we’re instead focusing on bringing you a new search experience, and are investigating improvements to permissions.

We do though understand the value that common variables in Blueprints would bring - we'll typically review this request at least once a year, at which point we’ll consider whether we need to alter its status.

There is an add-on available in our Marketplace which provides a solution to this problem - Blueprint Creator. I’m aware this isn’t optimal, but wanted to draw your attention to the workaround nonetheless.

I apologise for the disappointment and will ensure we provide you with an update on this feature request within the next 12 months.

      Best

84af3bc57b5a - I appreciate the advice, but I was never holding my breath. At least, not for Atlassian.

I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. see: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-66591

76f35de9436e - Not sure where in the world you are, but I'd meet you for coffee! Zoom meeting if nothing else. We could both drink some BRAWNDO! Why? Because it's the THIRST MUTILATOR! BRAWNDO HAS ELECTROLYTES!

But, do you know what BRAWNDO does NOT have? Access to common variables in Blueprints templates! Why? Because people will pay EXTRA for that, if someone makes it and places it on the MERKETPLACE! (Spelling intentional!)

And if some Atlassian staff wanted to join us, I'm certain we could have a wonderfully productive, and civilized discussion!

And, we could 'save' the world!

"Oi, Brain. What are we going to do tonight?"
"The same thing we do every night, Pinky..."

@william Wilson : Another interesting thread going. (see link below and my comment there as well, can't help myself these days, feel the need to become a freedom fighter again and showcase my entertaining confrontational arguments almost on a daily basis.)

We should meet up for coffee and invite all Atlassian's execs and give a speech about "how to save the world...and Atlassian"  (Water does still exist and we don't need Gatorade to grow plants yet...!!!

76f35de9436e : I could not agree with you more. Idiocracy was a great piece of fiction turned reality. I think you and I would get along famously! I am also one of those confrontational Argumentors! I have... {}gasp*{} *opinions as well.. and people often like to attempt to dissect them, often (but not always) at their failure.

We can express our irritation without any effect (gosh, how many similar threads I've already seen...)

Maybe we talk about alternatives here? If you could choose again, what tool would you use instead of Confluence?

(sooner or later everyone here will hit the opportunity window for the change, let's be prepared )

@Casey Meijer - Yes. Exactly that. And, people are starting to catch on.

A huge part of the problem, is that there are many users that are not even aware that you used to be able to do a lot of the things that you have to buy add-ons for now... freely, in the past.

Capitalism: "We're developing a really complex product and there are gaps. We have community developers that can fill in those gaps, while we continue to develop and improve the core product, and we can set up a marketplace so that those developers can get paid for their efforts!"

Greed: "We had set up this marketplace so that developers could get paid for their efforts, and we're collecting royalties from the sale of those add-ons. While we are continuing to develop our product, we could slowly remove several of the features that currently exist in the product our customers have already paid for, and because they are already using these features, and will undoubtedly be relying on them, they will have to go to the marketplace to purchase a replacement add-on, and increase our profits."

Frankly, I find it a betrayal of our trust, and insultingly dismissive of our intellectual ability to recognize it happening.

I guess it doesn't really matter though. Because, this is where we are at. And you work with the tools you have. I just hope that someone from Atlassian knows that their time now is limited. There are a lot of companies trying to take a bite out of Atlassian, and while none of them have the teeth yet... it's just a matter of time. And, either Atlassian will start going back to their original business model that we all knew and loved, or they will keep trying to suck their customers dry of every plug nickel they have, until they lose the customer.

            Good luck out there!

I don't think the problem is that they're catering to new customers.  The problem is that they're catering to Marketplace developers because they make a cut on Marketplace apps.  This is the kind of thing that happens when your business model has a built-in conflict of interest.

It's getting irritating that every time users come up against a badly thought-out aspect of Confluence Cloud, and report it, they are shown the back door with an "Unfortunately, this suggestion isn't currently on our roadmap -etc..". Simply an excuse to do nothing.

The fact is, Atlassian are developing products with all the bells and whistles they can think of to attract new customers, while ignoring the user base. In my case, setting up a workflow with the wrong document creator (happens when you have to copy them or someone leaves), means your approval process goes out the window! So I need to be able to change the owner.

And what's more annoying, is that there is a tool in Confluence store, that will alter the underlying code, and probably let users change the ownership of documents, but of course, here again you have to pay for that facility - extra!

I think Atlassian is going the environmental friendly way a little bit too much, the owner (after making billions) has decided to focus more on green energy instead of doing what he's good at, building system platforms.

I agree with Danny, the end of Atlassian is near if not already here, cost vs solution is not viable any longer and Atlassian cloud is their new money pit. I will run my server edition to the ground and save $$ as long as i can and then swap to another provider, some are on their way, similar in house products Atlassian used to offer, google them and you shall find them.

I think Atlassian forgot why they became popular in the first place, (because you were different and better (cost effective)) nowadays just the same as all the other rip off software companies forcing the cloud only.

Still can't believe companies in the year 2022 make these obvious mistakes when moving forward and complain when they loose market share??? (Yet their marketing exec 'at the same time' gets another bonus...In 2022 its all about bonusses!!!!)

Guess when you make enough $$, it does not matter anymore...so who am I to complain, right? (I'm just a customer... )

            ------------------------------------

Last but not least, hope this message somehow gets to these idiots, They (Atlassian founders/owners) can tell you all about how to grow your hair long and look after the environment while destroying your current user base, maybe this is a new business avenue we should all explore?? Maybe this is the future...like that movie idiocracy. (google that movie)

Who knows what will come of us by the year 2030 when you see people change like Mike Cannon Brooks has recently, really worries me (especially the hair, is he Jesus nowadays? ) and I guess it says/shows a lot about people making too much money in a short period and then losing the plot 6 months down the road.

So...long live Atlassian?? or not anymore..?? (I see it as: another short lived successful startup.com f### up)

Thought I throw in some jokes, light banter, it's sometimes necessary to convince idiots, I am one of those confrontational Argumentors!

            (Sue me for my opinion...)
