Section macro not rendering content correctly if content is not all contained within Column macro

When inserting the section/column macro using:

{section}
   Preliminary content
   {column}one{column}
   {column}two{column}
{section}

The 'Preliminary content' will be placed on the same line as the column content. This is inconsistent with past behaviour where any preliminary content will be placed on a new line.
