When we upgraded to the current version of Confluence (uncertain of previous version but I believe it was a 3.x release), all pages containing code blocks started rendering them wrong. Previously, they were rendered using a tab width of 8 which is the standard default setting in most text editors, now they are rendered using a tab width of 4, and there does not appear to be any way to configure this.
Additionally, when one selects text from a code block and pastes it somewhere else, it is pasted with spaces rather than tabs. Previously, tabs would be copied and pasted.
The previous behavior was highly desirable and useful to us.
