      EDIT
This issue seems to be relevant to all images when using the Word exporter, and all versions of Confluence since the mentioned affected Versions, including OnDemand. Raised priority to Major
      EDIT

Icons such as the 'tick' icon in the Tip macro are broken in a Word export.

      Steps to reproduce:

      1. Add a new page.
      2. Insert a tip using the Tip Macro.
      3. Save the page. Notice the green 'tick' icon in the tip's header.
      4. Go to "Tools" -> "Export to Word" and open the resulting *.doc file in Word (Windows or Mac).

Instead of a green tick, the image will be broken. The underlying HTML code shows an img src with the relative path to the icon, e.g. /wiki/images/icons/emoticons/check.png, which obviously won't work from a self-contained Word document.

This issue is a huge mess for us.

In my mind the solution should be that the image bits should be included within the word document, instead of a reference to a web page. So, do not fix the image address but embed it into the word document. You never know what happens to web addresses.

I think this is not related to CONF-28355, because CONF-28355 is about PDF translation in Confluence 5, and it says that some icons are scrampled (but not missing in general).
In the case of this ticket, these icons coming over correctly in the PDF translator of Confluence 4, while they are completely missing in the wod export. (just a little red cross for unresolved image reference)

Unsure if these 2 are directly related, but together they mean that emoticons in Confluence OnDemand pages cannot be exported to any useful format.

This behavior seems to occur with all images when using the export to word function
