Excerpt Macro Does Not Recognize Column Width

I am attempting to use the excerpt macro. When I add the macro to a column set with a percentage width (60% for example), the column width for the page is then ignored and is set to 100%.

Ideally, the excerpt macro needs to recognize the column width and not override it.
