Atlassian Update – 6th October 2023

      Hi everyone,

This is Jacqui from the Confluence team. I'm pleased to let you know that we have released support for image captions in the Confluence Data Center 8.6 release.

With image captions, you can make complex screenshots in your Confluence wiki easier to understand and remark on interesting pictures in your blog posts. Simply select the image in the editor, type your caption, and select Enter to insert it. Now all you have to do is come up with a good caption…

      Learn more about image captions.

      Kind regards,

      Jacqui

      Confluence Data Center

It would be nice to be able to caption images in some way. Currently, if you display and center an image, the only way I can think to get a caption-like thing on it is to use a user macro to wrap the caption in, e.g., ... or something similar, but this disallows Confluence markup.

      Maybe just

      !image.ext|caption=<markup>!

      ?

I agree, and also for Tables.

There should be also the option to include them in the Table of contents (as Table of Images or Table of Tables)
and be referenced (as dynamic cross-reference) in the text.

If you check the related cloud issue, it looks like it will be available relatively soon (more than 15 years after the issue was created). But with the server version being discontinued soon I wouldn't hold your breath on this one.

I can not believe that this has not been implemented yet. This seems to be a very fundamental feature and is a must!!

Adding another voice to the chorus here: this would be an extremely useful feature, and in some cases is a requirement for documentation. The method described here to use the "Instant Camera" effect is not an acceptable alternative for technical documentation.

I'd love to be see elements wrapped in a
element with a
element positioned below the image. This shouldn't be too difficult and is very well supported at this point:

Could you implement this very very very very very very very very basic feature of captions for images please? Even Google Sites offers this.

Sometimes I really think this Atlassian guys ignore the community completely ... this is a basic feature every document system has to provide! But OK probably we have to reevaluate if Confluence is the right tool for us.

Creating documentation with confluence for regulation purposes makes this feature a "must be". Also adding captions for tables.

Would be nice to have that very basic option for documentation!
