    • We collect Confluence feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

      Use case:
User management with two different directories, one housing the "company users" one housing the "external employee" users.

In cases, where the status for the employment changes (i.e. user now works for company or former emlpoyee now works as freelancer) it would be nice to tell Confluence, that a given user is moved between directories.
Thus, Confluence keeps the internal stored permissions, but gets the user information and credentials from the new directory.

[CONFSERVER-25630] Make it possible to move users between directories

This feature would really benefit the administrator in managing the users between directories.

How come every time I need to do something even slightly more advanced in Confluence or Jira I end up on a stale feature request page that gets totally ignored?

So the situation we have is our users are managed by LDAP. There was a request from our GDPR team to be able to anonymize the data of deactivated users. So for example

            • There is a user called "Lisa" who leaves the company
            • We want to keep her content but not have it associated with any personally identifying information (her name, email, etc.)
            • But the deactivated account is still managed by LDAP

Currently I can't edit that info like username/name because they are in the LDAP directory. Allowing me to move them to internal would make this much easier.

I cant believe they have not worked on it!

I migrated hundreds of users from old ldap directory to new directory, everything came over using migration wizard to a new directory until user logs in again and all group membership gets overwritten by default groups in new directory settings. (whats a point of migration wizard then)  .. its more like a bug then a feature to me.

Just to inform you folks that I replied a customer on our Answers community with and workaround o migrate users from one directory to other:

            https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Confluence-questions/Migrate-users-to-new-user-directory-Confluence-5-4-4/qaq-p/106313#M17819

"This is an invasive method which will involve executing update queries against Confluence database", so for anyone who want to try this method the following will be required:

            • Setting up a Confluence Test Instance for validation.
            • DBA Knowledge.
            • Backup of your Confluence database and application directories before attempting this.
            • Have Confluence on version 5.3

This method is not supported so if you decide doing this you will be doing it at your own risk.

            Thanks and Regards,
