We're currently using Amazon SES to send emails. They're quite strict about the content/headers of email that's sent though the service. One of the restrictions is that files must have valid extensions. Here's a list of valid extensions. (http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/ses/latest/DeveloperGuide/MIMETypes.html)
Here is an example offender:
... Content-Type: image/png; name=comment-icon ...
The attachment needs to have the .png extension to be able to send successfully through SES.
