In an Excel spreadsheet, the formatting of a cell (bold/italics) would be preserved in the viewfile macro only if the entire cell followed the same format.
If a cell contains mixed formatting (e.g. half of the text is bolded and the other half is not), the viewfile macro will not render the formatted text.
