Trying to insert macro parameters results in smilies sometimes

When trying to insert a macro with a parameter, e.g.

{attachments:patterns=.*pdf}

the "automatic" conversion of kicks in into a smiley, effectively denying to insert the wanted macro.
The result is something like

{attachments(smiley)atterns...}

Wanted behaviour: when inserting macros I don't want to have the smiley auto-conversion active.

Also tried with

{attachments|pattern=.*pdf}

but this results in a new "wiki-markup"-block.

The only solution that seems to work always:
enter a colon, then a pipe, then the parameter:

{attachments:|pattern=.*pdf}
