      Atlassian Update - 22 December 2023

      Hi everyone,

This is Charlie from the Confluence team. I'm pleased to let you know that we have released support for vertical alignment of table cell content in the Confluence Data Center 8.4 release.

Bring visual harmony to your tables with the ability to align any type of content to the top, middle, or bottom of a table cell. Select the table content you want to align, then choose the desired alignment in the table toolbar. Those cumbersome workarounds are a thing of the past.

      Kind regards,

      Charlie

      Confluence Data Center

Especially when merging columns, it would be nice to have the merged cells content aligned vertically.

We still waiting on that feature for the cloud version !

How can you release that on Datacenter but not on Cloud when YOU have made it very clear that the Cloud product is the main priority and the future of your product. nonsense.

@Jake Burgy - Yes, of course, I'm fully aware that Confluence Server is now a discontinued product (which is also VERY UNFORTUNATE). All I'm saying is that, after 11 long years of patient collective waiting for this feature, Atlassian could have at least had the small courtesy to roll it out for both platforms, not only for Datacenter. And, quite frankly, I'm anything but happy about the way Atlassian has been doing business lately. And I know I'm not the only one by far. I know full well that I can't do anything about it, but I can at least let them have a piece of my mind.

@7d4f8a93add1 - As far as I can tell, Atlassian isn't adding any more new features into Confluence Server. The product is being discontinued.

They either want you to pay more for Confluence Data Center to remain on-premises, or move to Confluence Cloud. It's unfortunate, but it's the current reality!

As of V8.4 this feature is indeed available... but only for Confluence Datacenter, NOT for Confluence Server! This is VERY UNFORTUNATE, especially since the free third party add-on from "Web Development Laboratory" also stopped working for installations greater than V7.15.3. PLEASE Atlassian, can't you make the feature also available for Server installations? What's the big roadblock? There's still a great many of running Server installations out there. Please don't leave us out in the cold!

When will this update be implemented in the cloud version?

A fix for this issue is available in Confluence Server and Data Center 8.4.0.
Upgrade now or check out the Release Notes to see what other issues are resolved.

I'm of course happy to be finally getting this feature, but at the same time, I'm still in disbelief that it took so long to implement something so simple that many users clearly want/need. Better late than never, I guess.

            Thank you for implementing!

I've been using this shift+enter workaround as well. Like you mentioned, it's better than doing nothing, but far from ideal. It's problematic with varying width tables (tables that resize with the width of the browser window), and of course, whenever new table content is added, you have to tweak things again.

It's absolutely appalling that such a simple-to-implement feature remains missing after over 10 YEARS. This just goes to show how little regard for their users this company has.
