Why has the ability to edit a page in "wiki markup" been taken away?

      I would simply like to know why the ability to edit in "wiki markup" has been taken away. I never used the rich text editor. It messes up my markup. I know I have the ability to use the "Insert - Wiki Markup" function, but once it is inserted it is converted to where I can no longer edit it in markup. Please advise.
