Bandana cache (PluginSettings) stores mutable objects

There's a Bandana cache that caches everything which is sent in and out of Bandana, including mutable objects like the global Settings object.

We should consider the following:

• adding some guidance that only immutable objects should be passed to Bandana
• changing the settings managers to use immutable settings objects
• other stuff?
