    • Originally found using 3.0.2 WAR versions running in Jira standalone Tomcat on Win 2003 server. JDK 1.5.0_08-b03.
      Then also recreated at sandbox.onconfluence.com

      The following markup renders strangely in Confluence:

      "?????" hello "?????"
      

      It renders as...
      "???" hello "???"

      Different numbers of question marks render differently too. e.g.

      "???" hello "????"
      

      ...
      "?" hello "??"

      So, it looks like the same is true in Jira as well

            By the way, removing the quotes stops the problem happening.
