Links Browser: Should provide visibility of available shortcut links

    • We collect Confluence feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

Shortcut Links are a massively useful feature of Confluence, but one that is largely unknown and unused by users as it is not easily discoverable.

Currently, shortcut links are configured by admin users on an admin-only screen, and there is no way for non-admin users to see what shortcuts are available.

The redesign of the links browser provides an ideal opportunity to promote this existing feature more:

      • A new tab showing the available shortcut links
      • Ability to enter a key and an alias using the shortcut links
      • A link to the 'Contact Admins' page for new shortcuts to be requested
      • User documentation on the feature

I'm used to Interwiki links from many other implementations, so I explicitly searched for this feature – listing the available links is an essential part of all of them, now I have to resort to that pesky "cut&paste from the admin page" work-around.

I absolutely echo Mark's comment; shortcut links are essentially useless as the average user does not know about them nor can they even discover them. I've resorted to creating a page in our wiki that describes the shortcut links we have in place for them to use.

The WYSIWYG editor now can provide better feedback to the user, an option should appear when you type [ that says "Insert Shortcut Link" that can provide a modal dialog listing the available shortcut links. In fact, it should be a new item on left hand side of the Insert Link dialog, or just add more information to the Advanced one. See screenshot.

It would be greatly beneficial to users to see the list of Shortcut link keys after typing in the @ part of the macro command ... [xxxx@ then shows the list to select one.

Cant believe this simple feature request has still not been implemented after nearly two years!!

Indeed, It would be nice to be able to publish a dynamic documentation of the shortcuts currently configured on a Confluence instance, as they are (for what I know)

            • Defined by Administrators (in an Admin section)
            • Used by the Users - They should be aware of the shortcuts available.
Maintaining automatically a list would be great. Doing it manually would be such a pain.

Without this, shortcut links are essentially useless for the average user.

This would be a handy thing to have in our customer facing site. It would be nice if this could get back on the roadmap as it looks to be stalled.

If we find time, this would be good to get in to 3.3
