      Hi all,

Thank you for your patience on this issue.

We are pleased to announce that the new Edit Files experience is here. From Confluence 6.11 (release notes). Now, you can edit any file attached to a Confluence page using your preferred desktop application, then save the file back to Confluence automatically. The new Atlassian Companion app works across Windows and Mac operating systems with any of our supported Browsers.

      Best,

Victoria Li | Product Manager - Confluence Server

[CONFSERVER-17250] Add support for Microsoft Office on the Mac to Office Connector

Thanks for your patience on this issue. In Confluence 6.11, we’ve replaced the Edit in Office option with a new feature that allows you to edit any file attached to a Confluence page using a desktop application, then automatically save the file back to Confluence.

You can now edit Microsoft Offices documents, Photoshop files, Keynote presentations — any attached file with a compatible application installed on your computer.

Check out the release notes to read more about this feature.

            Hi all,

I'm pleased to let you know that we've started work on this issue.

As previously mentioned, we've decided to make a significant investment to overhaul this feature. Users will be able to edit not only Office documents but most types of file, and have their changes saved back to Confluence. We will be working to ensure the new functionality works across browser and OS versions.

In the interim, please checkout our compatibility matrix in the Atlassian Support Documentation to confirm current functionality.

            Best,

Jenny Millman | Product Manager - Confluence Server

I found this post while trying to understand behavior of opening/editing office documents on a mac osx.

My desired goal is to be able to click on an attached document, have the document open in the office app, perform a save and have the updated document saved in the attachments (presumably with a new revision number automatically added). I am using the "attachments" macro for managing my attachments.

The behavior I am seeing is that I click on a document and it automatically opens in the office app on my mac, but when I save the document, its not reflected back to the site (it appears to be doing an auto download and open). I have to manually drag the updated document back to the site to get it uploaded.

When I click the "twirl-down" (next to the document name in the attachements macro) and try clicking on the "Edit in Office" button nothing appears to happen. I have created the macro with the correct permissions noted above along with "configuring" the WebDAV launcher firefox extension. I'm not sure if I've configured the extension correctly but essentially created an entry that says ".xlsx" and points to my script file.

Again, I'm not sure if I am mixing solutions or what the best way (if there is one) to get the Open In Office to work on the mac such that the edited document is automatically saved back on the page.

Thanks in advance for the help.

            Hi Arya

Yes it's a client end change.

            Hi Ralf,
Is it a client end change where users need to get this office_connector.sh file saved in their individual mac books and then configure the Firefox plugin to use this script while opening office documents?

@Karie is important to set the script executable otherwise you get an out of memory error

            chmod ug+x office_connector.sh

@Ralf - Ah...thanks! I wasn't certain if the script was added in Confluence or the plugin. Appreciate it!

@Karie doesn't matter just create a file like office_connector.sh on your desktop and configure the Firefox Plugin to open your Office Documents with this Script.
