Another suggestion from MediaWiki...I guess MediaWiki has sections of a page and you can edit a section vs the entire page. Not sure if this is ever going to be possible in Confluence or if it's worth the effort, but users seem to find it a nice feature to be able to edit a small section of a page rather then the entire thing. This maybe be true for documents which are very large.
