Since Confluence 2.10ish, the Confluence editor has provided updates about draft saving, including a red error message when drafts cannot be saved due to server issues.

The full-screen mode of the Rich Text Editor does not display the status messages, so there is no way for users to know whether their drafts are succeeding or failing. This leads to, or exacerbates issues such as CONF-16961 and CONF-9934.

The full-screen editor needs to have the draft status message, or else users can lose their work.

It might be worth investigating how valuable the full-screen editor actually is, or whether it could be removed.
