I keep trying to educate users to do correct wiki linking but have concluded it is impossible – fighting against the standard practice of copying and pasting URLs from the address bar is just too hard. Users are constantly creating external links which are really links back to another page in the wiki itself.
It would be best if Confluence would automatically change links back to its own server into standard wiki links so that links of the form:
https://wikiserver.bigcompany.com/display/bigproject/Top+News
https://wikiserver.bigcompany.com/x/9tQ
https://wikiserver.bigcompany.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=197007158
would all become:
[bigproject:Top News]
This should not be that hard to do upon saving the page and would automatically create a much sturdier wiki structure less prone to breakage when pages are moved/renamed. So this is a feature request and would be a HUGE win for all users – particularly average ones. Good software adapts to what the user does naturally.
