Provide easier access to Tiny URL and Wiki Markup link via modal dialog

    • We collect Confluence feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

This should be made more readily available (not via the page information page)

Proposed solution is via a dialog.

Also, we should provide the wiki markup to link to a page via the same dialog.

Brian, can this be resolved now?

I agree with Tim above. Providing permalinks via a dialog sounds vaguely ridiculous. It should be a simple, small link always displayed at the top of each page and news item (as described in CONF-9104).

I hope the description on this confluence issue does not reflect how this is implemented – having a dialog pop up to give the permalink would be about as awkward as hiding it in the info tab – maybe worse.

What should really happen is there should either be a visible "permalink" in Confluence like there is in JIRA or in innumerable blogging and other tools (so you can just copy that link and paste it elsewhere).

Or perhaps better yet, the URL you see in the regular address bar should always be the permalink itself and not the descriptive URL. Most people simply copy and paste the URL to make links to things so Confluence should make it as easy as possible for people to do the natural thing and get the most durable and correct result – less training, better results. The only problem I see with this is that the space name that is needed for wiki links between spaces is then no visible, but if the user picked space name could be used instead (the one that shows within confluence vs in the URL), that would be even better than having to use the sometimes cryptic internal space name.

Brian, can you do the tech review please?
