      Current behavior

Confluence follows a set of Search Result Ranking:

      Desired behavior

It will be great if Confluence Admin can adjust the search ranking.

[CONFSERVER-15619] Ability to adjust ranking of search results is required

I really would like to haven an option to increase the importance of labels in the ranking of the search results. Especially with searches with only one term, a page having a label matching this term should rank higher than a page with just some mentioning of the term somewhere in the page content.

And it would be nice to be able to define a set of labels to make a page rank higher or lower. Like all pages labeled "how-to-page" resulting in a higher ranking in the search results and all pages labeled "outdated" resulting in lower ranking in the search result.

I see we can develop using the search decorator - https://developer.atlassian.com/server/confluence/search-decorator-module-tutorial/ but we are not development team and write our own custom plugin.

On my non-cloud Confluence instance, when i enter something into the search field, the popup search options/results includes an "Advanced search" option.  Under the "Advanced search", there's a "Content Type" option.   Any possibility of adding additional content types?  Eg., "Help pages", "FAQ pages", "Standards & Policies pages", etc

The following errors disturb us in the lucene ranking of the search results:

            • Attachments get way too many points. They get points for:
o Title: They are equal to Confluence pages which makes no sense for us
o ContentBody: If, for example, in a PDF the document title is listed in its footer on each page, it will collect many additional points for this !?!
              o content-name-unstemmed: Why ever
            • Often search results that are ranked too high have additional points with content-name-unstemmed, especially attachments. What is content-name-unstemmed for?
            • Confluence page titles have too little weight. Because most of us try to search for a page title
            • boostByModificationDate has too little weight compared to other ranking points. We work in a development department where the latest findings are usually the most important.
            • My last edited or viewed pages do not get any points in the search (they are only listed when the search is opened, after typing any character to the search field this information is ignored)

Maybe this will give you some hints what should at least be adjustable in the ranking (instead of opening the full Lucene configuration, which would be even better )

This would be very helpful. If I am searching for a page titled "Company Policies and Guidance", which has a tag of "policies", and use the search string "Policies" I get 13 results with the word "Policy" in their title, and the desired page is 14th. To reiterate, the first 13 results do not contain the word for which I am searching.

Confluence employees: if this feature is not going to be considered, please close it as such.

We would also like to see this feature implemented.  We have a number of spaces that we would like to be excluded from the main search, as well as the ability to weight pages based on which space their in, the documentation space vs the knowledge base space.   We just upgraded to version 7.1 and the search is better but it would be great if we had more control.

I would like to add to this request. We have a 10K user license and many of our customers have requested a better way to search. Last edit appears to be on the top of the list, but we have pages that have not been edited in some time, but it still wins with popularity and the content is still valuable. I would like to change the order of precedence in the order of search results.

I had the same problem. In our wiki there is one article I like to find, which is about the topic, but has another title. The pages that have the search term in the title are blog entries that are totally outdated by now. I would like to either weight articles more than blog entries or make blog entries lose weight based on their age faster.

I hope this feature is in the works as it critical for large intranets that have many user pages. It would be very helpful to add weight to authoritative pages to ensure they always appear above other pages.

Also, being able to set an authoritative page for specific labels would be great.

            Thanks.

Will be great if this can be implemented soon since the current search ranking seems to give less significance to the "recently modified" option but it is the most priority in many situations.

Providing this feature is critical in a real-time environment. Search results that are coming with this default ranking system is pretty dumb!

This feature would be very helpful to us. We are a college, with many users who set up personal pages. However, these pages are rarely relevant to the information our users are searching for.

For instance, we have a shared network drive called "HOME". Many people have questions about how to access their files on HOME. When they search our wiki, however, there are many personal pages that are given priority in the ranking system, because everyone's personal page is called "Home". It is currently nearly impossible to find the page(s) about the network drive "HOME" on our wiki.

            Thanks!

This feature would be super important to our users. Often time information relevance changes, and a new page is made with more updated information., and depending on how someone searches, the older information goes to the top and the new page may be buried.

This feature also gets our vote.

Some feedback we collect from our users' Confluence experience is that the search results aren't relevant and it sometimes takes a few tries.

I'd like to give higher rankings to the higher viewed pages and those that were recently edited. It seems like the long tail ranks too high.

            Btw, this was interesting--http://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DEV/ShipIt+XI+Delivery+-+Awesome+Search+for+Confluence

We would like a feature that allows us to always display results from certain spaces at the top, in the way that Google's sponsored links appear. The spaces named for prioritisation would need to be configurable by Admins.

            We need this because:
            a) we have many team spaces and very few "official" ones
            b) search is the main navigation tool for users
            c) "official" processes and documents that apply across the whole group are consistently being ranked lower than personal notes by individual contributors and local documentation by and for individual teams. Sometimes official policy doesn't even appear on the first results page and so users conclude there is no official policy.

We would rank the need for this issue as "Major", not "Minor"
