Create an option to hide users that are not allowed to have a personal page from the people directory

    • We collect Confluence feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

NOTE: This suggestion is for Confluence Server. Using Confluence Cloud? See the corresponding suggestion.

Currently we have two kind of "super groups" allowed access to confluence. One is 'customers' one is 'employees'. The difference in the global permission scheme is that employees are allowed a personal spage and customers are not. We wanted to prevend customers from seeing eachoter in the people directory list. However even when someone does not have a personal page the user shows up in the people directory. Please make a simple option to "hide" people that are not allowed a personal space from the people directory. We do not want to hide the whole directory, just show only the employees and not the customers we have.

We struggled with the same issue and want to collaborate with employees as well as with partners and customers. The confluence space restriction does not fit our requirements because we don’t want our partners and customers to see or even know each other.
On the other hand we don`t want to miss confluence features like the user search, mentions and so on.
So we developed the "Space Privacy- Extranet for Confluence" add-on. It allows you to create isolated extranet spaces. In these spaces, assigned users keep to themselves – just like in meeting rooms. That is, they do not have access to other information from fellow user profiles.

We've looked at this feature and have one question... even if you were able to prevent customers from browsing other users by hiding the people directory, they would still be able to find other users via Confluence search and mentions. Would that still be acceptable or would you need to restrict the ability for customers to search users as well? (The latter would be significantly more work.)

Has to do with the same topic, restricting access to the people directory but is perhaps easier to implement.
