Index old versions of stuff: content and attachments.

By default, search should only apply to most recent versions, but option to search older versions.

If there are search 'hits' in multiple versions of a single document, there should probably be some UI trickery that lets you drill down, rather than overwhelming the results with a lot of the one thing.
