When using Radeox directly we never had any problems with things inside

      blocks being interpreted as macros.

Unfortunately after moving to Confluence we've found all kinds of things break & have to be explicitly escaped. We really need a 'code block, no escapes required' macro.

      e.g.

      http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GROOVY/Regular+Expressions

we can't get this page to render, when it worked perfectly fine in Radeox. e.g. look for the =~ ==~ ~= symbols, they don't come out right in Confluence. Also the fonts go bizarre.
