Problem
If an attachment link is copy-pasted from a rendered page and used multiple times on another page, initially only the most recently inserted duplicate previews. After idling on the page for ~1-2 minutes, all of the copy-pasted links to that attachment stop previewing (no ?preview= parameter added on click), and users see "The file cannot be displayed. Error: The file does not exist." Opening in a new tab/download still works.
Environment
Confluence DC
Steps to Reproduce
- Create Page A. Upload an Office file (e.g., .docx).
- Insert an attachment link to that file on Page A and confirm preview works.
- Create Page B.
- From the rendered view of Page A, copy (Ctrl+C or Cmd+C) the visible attachment link and paste it into Page B. Save Page B → click → preview works.
- Paste the same attachment link again on Page B (now two identical links). Save.
- Click the newest pasted link → preview works; click the earlier duplicate → preview fails (no response or “file does not exist”).
- Wait ~1–2 minutes
- Click both links again → neither previews (no ?preview= appended), both show “file does not exist”.
Expected Results
All links referencing the same attachment should preview consistently.
Actual Results
- Initially, only the most recent duplicate preview works; earlier duplicates fail.
- After a short idle, all copy-pasted duplicates fail to preview.
Workaround
Copy the attachment link from the page edit mode or reinsert each link using the editor’s Link dialog.
