Suggestion Summary
When Content Approvals are enabled in a space, pages that have been approved (or are in review / have changes requested) do not show their approval status anywhere in a Confluence database. The database "Status" field only reflects the regular page status (the status lozenge), and there is no field type that can display a page's approval status.
When an approval is requested on a page, any existing page status is removed, as page statuses and approvals cannot be used together. As a result, approved pages show an empty Status cell in databases, and there is no way to track approved pages from a database view.
Use Case
Teams use Confluence databases to track the review lifecycle of many pages (for example, a glossary or document review tracker). They use page statuses for working stages (e.g. "Pending review", "Rewrite needed", "Verified") and Content Approvals for the formal sign-off.
Once a page is approved:
- The Status cell for that page becomes empty in the database.
- There is no database field that can show "In review", "Approved" or "Changes requested".
- Setting a page status to mark the page as approved invalidates the active approval, so users cannot work around this with the existing Status field.
This makes it impossible to see which pages are approved, or to filter, sort or group by approval state, in a database view.
Suggested Solution
- Add a database field (or an option on the existing Status field) that shows the approval status of linked Confluence pages (In review / Approved / Changes requested / no approval), including the approver and approval date if possible.
- Allow filtering, sorting and grouping by approval status in database views.
- Alternatively, show the approval status in the existing Status field when a page has an active approval and no page status.
