Introduce an inheritance mechanism for data classification labels in Confluence

Problem Statement

There is no mechanism for a classification assigned to a parent page to automatically propagate to its child pages (or the full page tree beneath it).

Proposed Solution

A classification inheritance model for Confluence page hierarchies:

• When a classification label is assigned to a parent page, all child pages within that hierarchy should automatically inherit the same label.
• Ideally, this should be configurable, with options for:
  • Hard inheritance: child pages always inherit and cannot override.
  • Soft inheritance: child pages inherit by default but can be individually overridden.
  • Admins should be able to apply inheritance at the space level or at a specific page subtree level.

Use Cases

For organizations managing large documentation structures, especially in regulated industries, manually classifying hundreds or thousands of pages is operationally unscalable. A parent-level classification that cascades through the tree would:

• Reduce classification overhead significantly
• Ensure consistent governance across related content
• Align Confluence behavior with how users intuitively expect classification to work in a content hierarchy
