      Problem

Page Analytics in Confluence Cloud only records a visit when someone physically opens the page. But with newer AI-powered experiences, users can now consume a page's content without ever navigating to it — and those interactions leave no trace in analytics.

This creates a real visibility gap for content owners trying to understand how their pages are being used, and weakens security/audit visibility for sensitive content.

Scenarios where content is consumed but not tracked

      1. "Summarize" from Search Results

When searching in Confluence, results display a "Summarize" action next to the page title. Clicking it generates an AI summary right in the search UI — users get the key information without opening the page, so no page view is recorded.

      2. Rovo Source Preview

When Rovo answers a question, it cites source pages below the response. Users can open a "Preview" of those pages inline and read the content without navigating to the actual Confluence page — again, no analytics event is triggered.

      Suggestion

These AI-driven content interactions should be reflected in Page Analytics. This could be done by:

      • Counting them as regular page views, or
      • Introducing a dedicated metric (e.g., "AI-assisted views" or "Accessed via AI") to distinguish them from direct visits

      Why this matters

      • Content owners lose visibility into actual consumption — pages may look underused when they're heavily accessed through AI features
      • Security & compliance — admins need to know who accessed information, regardless of the surface used
      • Content strategy — accurate usage data helps teams decide what to maintain, update, or deprecate
