New Editor: Add option to display an attachment as a plain text hyperlink (feature parity with Legacy editor)

As a Confluence user, I want to hyperlink text to an attachment on the page, and have that link open a file preview when clicked — not trigger a download.

In the Legacy editor, I could:

      • Highlight any text → click Link → select an attachment → get a clean text hyperlink
      • Or right-click an attachment thumbnail → change display to a text link

In the new editor, neither option exists. Attachments can only display as cards or inline Smart Links. There is no way to turn a word or phrase into a hyperlink that points to an attachment.

The manual workaround (copying the attachment URL and pasting via Cmd/Ctrl+K) triggers a file download instead of opening a preview — which is how the Legacy editor handled it.

      I'd like:

      • The ability to hyperlink text to an attachment on the page
      • Clicking that link should open a preview, not download the file

Teams that rely on Confluence for documentation (projects, policies, onboarding, procedures) lost a core 10‑year workflow with the new editor. Authors can no longer create clean text links to attachments that open in preview; they have to rely on visually heavy cards/Smart Links or a clumsy URL‑copy flow that triggers downloads instead of previews. This breaks reading flow and professionalism on every page that references attachments, affecting every reader, not just authors, with no way to restore the legacy behaviour today.
