In the new Confluence editor, the + → Link/link dialog only supports web URLs and Smart Links. It no longer allows users to upload a local file directly from the link dialog and insert it as a simple text link, which was possible in the legacy editor.

Current workarounds are to:

• Upload the file via Add image, video, or file and then change its display, or

• Upload the file, copy its URL from … → Attachments, and paste that into the link dialog.

These are more steps, less discoverable, and break the previous “insert link to a file I’m uploading now” workflow.
