Background / Problem
Today in Confluence Cloud, site admins and customers can:
- See a list of spaces (e.g. Space Directory, Space Settings, Space Reports)
- Export a CSV from Space Reports and then manually count the rows
However, there is no simple way in the UI to see the total number of spaces in a site, such as:
“Total: 5,000 spaces”
For small sites with only a few spaces, this is usually not a problem. But for larger enterprise customers with 1,000+ or even several thousand spaces, manually counting or relying on CSV export is impractical and error-prone.
In practice, both customers and Atlassian support / solution engineers need to know:
- How many spaces exist in the site in total
- (Optionally) how many are current / archived / deleted
Right now, customers often have to:
- Export the Space Reports CSV and count rows, or
- Ask Atlassian support / migration teams to access the site and count on their behalf
This creates unnecessary work for both customers and Atlassian, especially when the only thing they need is a simple total number.
Requested Improvement
Add a clearly visible “Total spaces” count in the Confluence Cloud UI, for example:
- At the bottom of the Space Reports page, similar to the way spreadsheets show a total count, and/or
- In the Space Directory or relevant admin views
Examples of what would be helpful:
- A simple label such as:
-
- Total spaces: 5,000
- Optionally, broken down by status (if available):
-
- Current: 4,800 / Archived: 150 / Deleted (retained): 50
The key requirement is that admins and customers can see the total number of spaces at a glance, without having to export CSVs or open a support ticket.
Why this matters / Impact
- For large customers with 1,000+ spaces (e.g. some enterprise tenants with ~5,000 spaces), this is important for:
-
- Migration planning and validation
-
- Governance, cleanup, and archiving projects
-
- License and usage discussions
- It reduces operational overhead:
-
- Customers no longer need to manually count or maintain their own scripts
-
- Atlassian support / migration engineers don’t need to log in and count on their behalf
- It’s a small, low-complexity UX improvement that would provide clear value for large sites, while not harming smaller ones (who may simply ignore it).
Example user story
As a Confluence site admin of a large enterprise site,
I want to see the total number of spaces directly in the UI,
so that I can quickly understand the scale of my site and report it to stakeholders without exporting CSVs or opening a support ticket.
