Currently, the default “All” / basic search in Confluence Cloud does not search within attachment content, so users only find text inside PDFs/Word/Excel if they manually switch to Advanced Search and apply the Confluence or Attachment filters. Some customers rely heavily on searching within attachments and see this as a regression, because critical information is now missed unless users know and remember to change filters.
- Problem: Default “All” / basic search excludes attachment body content and only searches titles, names, and metadata, which hides relevant attachment matches.
- Requested change: Provide a site-level (and/or user-level) setting to make Confluence the default search scope and/or always include attachment content in default search results.
- Benefit to users: People can reliably find critical information stored in attachments without extra clicks or specialist knowledge of filters.
- Benefit to admins/teams: Reduces confusion, training needs, and support contacts caused by “missing” attachment results that are actually indexed but hidden by default behavior.
- Alignment with expectations: Matches long-standing customer expectations that attachment content is searchable by default, improving trust in Confluence search.
