Issue Summary

Currently, when exporting a Confluence Cloud page that contains an embedded whiteboard to PDF, the whiteboard content is not included in the exported file. Instead, users see an error message such as “Could not identify user” in place of the whiteboard. This limitation prevents teams from sharing or archiving complete documentation, as whiteboards are often a critical part of collaborative content.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Create or open a Confluence Cloud page.
2. Embed a whiteboard on the page.
3. Go to the page menu and select Export > Export to PDF.
4. Open the exported PDF file.
5. Observe that the area where the whiteboard should appear displays an error message ( “Could not identify user”) instead of the whiteboard content.

Expected Results

• When a Confluence page containing an embedded whiteboard is exported to PDF, the whiteboard content should be rendered in the PDF output.

• The exported PDF should display the whiteboard as a static image or vector graphic, preserving the visual fidelity of the original whiteboard.

Actual Results

• When exporting a Confluence page with an embedded whiteboard to PDF, the whiteboard area displays an error message (“Could not identify user") instead of the actual whiteboard content.

Workaround

Use the browser’s print option (e.g., File > Print or Ctrl+P / Cmd+P) while viewing the Confluence page. This will print the embedded whiteboard as it appears on the screen, and you can save the output as a PDF.

Alternatively, print or export the whiteboard separately, then paste the resulting image or PDF into the exported Confluence PDF or into the Confluence page before exporting.
