Issue Summary
Enable the "Import data from HTML to Confluence" feature to support importing HTML space exports generated by Confluence Cloud itself.
Problem Statement
Currently, the HTML import tool in Confluence Cloud (Beta feature) is designed only to import HTML from other tools (3rd Party). It does not recognise or properly import HTML exports created from Confluence Cloud spaces. This suggestion is to extend the tool’s functionality to also support importing space HTML exports generated by Confluence Cloud, allowing customers to use their own Confluence Cloud Space HTML exports for backup, migration, or restoration purposes.
Proposed Solution
- Enhance the HTML import tool to detect and correctly process HTML exports created by Confluence Cloud.
- Ensure that page hierarchy, attachments, and metadata are preserved during the import.
- Provide clear documentation on any limitations or unsupported elements.
Current Behaviour
When importing a Confluence Cloud space HTML export, the HTML import process completes successfully and indicates success, but content is missing from the newly generated space.
Workaround
At this stage, the recommended and supported option for migrating spaces between Confluence Cloud sites is to use the CSV export/import process, as documented in the official guide:
