Summary
Currently, Confluence’s new editor allows users to nest a table within another table. However, it does not support deeper levels of nesting (i.e., inserting a table inside a table that is already nested). This limitation restricts users from creating complex data structures and advanced layouts within their pages.
Use Case
Many teams use Confluence to document complex processes, hierarchical data, or multi-dimensional information. For example, a project manager may want to create a master table summarizing projects, with each cell containing a sub-table for tasks, and within those, further sub-tables for task details or dependencies. The inability to nest tables beyond one level forces users to compromise on clarity, break up information across multiple pages, or use less effective workarounds.
Suggestion for Implementation
Enhance the Confluence editor to allow users to nest tables within tables to multiple levels (deep nesting). This could be achieved by enabling the “Insert Table” option within any table cell, regardless of the current nesting depth. Additionally, ensure that the editor’s UI and performance remain smooth and intuitive when handling deeply nested tables.
