      Problem

The Confluence Word macro will be deprecated (on 25 September 2025) as explained in Learn which macros are being removed

The suggested alternative method of uploading the file directly to Confluence content or paste a OneDrive smart link to embed files in Confluence is not suitable for some customers.

      Suggested Solution

The Word macro continues to be supported, or
An alternative solution with equivalent functionality (e.g., inline preview and updates) is provided before the macro is removed.

      Why This Is Important

The business impact for affected customers is one or more of the following:

      • A large number of pages in their internal Confluence and also their customers' spaces depend on the Word macro.
      • Many business users lack the technical expertise to easily transition to alternative solutions.
      • The removal of inline visibility causes confusion and increases the burden on administrators.
      • Some of the suggested alternatives (e.g., third-party apps) incur additional licensing costs, making them difficult to adopt widely across both internal and customer environments.
      • Companies that want to display information to their customers are not able to host the documents in another site such as Microsoft Office or Google Drive because the customers are not part of their business license, so the file would need to have a publicly available link on the Microsoft Office side to be viewable to the customer. This would potentially expose the information to anyone, which is not allowable.
